The University of Tulsa, not surprisingly in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has installed a Mira Instant Replay server and Mira Control Surface. The eight-channel Mira system is part of an HD upgrade to the broadcast facilities located at H.A Chapman Stadium on campus.
The Mira delivers replays and highlights to entertain and inform fans attending football at Skelly Field and basketball games at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Soccer, volleyball and softball games from venues across campus are also covered by the broadcast operations team. In addition to feeding the digital scoreboards, Mira delivers replays and highlights to in-house displays in the suites and throughout the venue concourses.
Chris Becker, Director of CaneVision, the university’s broadcast group, found that his freelance operators could grasp the basics of Mira within minutes of seeing the system for the first time. Becker attributes this to the intuitive interface and ergonomic layout of the Mira Control Surface. The Mira is so easy to operate Canevision has plans to use student operators for basketball games next season. Operated in a five-in, three-out, configuration, Mira delivers fans at least two angles on replays throughout the game. The Mira operator simultaneously builds highlight packages and playlists of individual plays and players.
“We were looking for a new instant replay system that could meet our needs today and in the future,” explains Chris Becker, Director, CaneVision, University of Tulsa. “We felt the Mira was our best fit, both technically and from an ease-of-use perspective. It really is a top-quality system at a cost-effective price.”
Post-game shows featuring football and basketball head coaches are also produced with the Mira. The ability for operators to name each highlight and play it as it’s being added to the playlist makes searching for specific plays—to be incorporated into the post-game production—substantially easier. Assembled playlists are melted to the Final Cut or Premiere edit suites for finishing and distribution on the athletics department website, to the American Athletic Conference, and to local TV stations for broadcast.
